Sarah Templeton,

M.Mus. in Literature and Performance (Voice)

I draw upon my training as an opera and concert singer, a theatre school trained actor, and a Feldenkrais® Practitioner, to teach all aspects of vocal performance, and have done so for over 20 years.  At the college level, I taught courses in singing, speech, movement, and acting at Fanshawe College’s Theatre Arts Department in London, Ontario.  During my years in Vancouver, I taught a full studio of voice students at the prestigious Vancouver Academy of Music.  I currently teach privately, both in person and online, and I have singing students all over Europe, the U.S., and Canada.

My career as a performer has included opera, concerts, and recitals, including several years as a member of the Vancouver Opera Chorus.  During those years in Vancouver, I also founded and ran a small opera company, Heroic Opera, producing fully staged works of Wagner, Verdi, and R. Strauss.

In addition to my career as a soprano and voice teacher, I am also a Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner.  I have taught the Feldenkrais® Method at the Stratford Festival of Canada, and Feldenkrais® and acting technique to students of both the Vancouver Academy of Music and the University of British Columbia’s Opera Division. I also gave many workshops in ‘Feldenkrais® for Singers’ at Western University’s Faculty of Music during my years in London, Ontario.

My choral conducting experience began at Queen’s University, where I was assistant conductor to several ensembles, including the university’s main Wind Ensemble and the prestigious Cantabile Choirs of Kingston. I was heavily involved with several of the Cantabile Choirs, and was fortunate to be mentored by conductor/composer Dr. Mark Sirett, who just received the Order of Canada for for his steadfast commitment to the field of choral music. Since my time at Queen’s, I have conducted several church choirs, and ran music rehearsals of my opera company in Vancouver. As well, during my time in London, I conducted a chamber choir of students at Fanshawe College.

Having moved back to St. John’s after a 28-year hiatus, I am excited to create musical experiences for all!
